Ragdoll Breed

The Ragdoll breed is known for their calm disposition.  Ragdolls prefer to be be near their human people as much as possible and adore being handled.  Ragdolls are known to go limp when picked up - hence, the nickname Floppy Cats.  Ragdolls will welcome visitors at the door much like a dog.  They are even known to be trained with a harness and leash and enjoy walks outside.  Below are some FAQs regarding the Ragdoll breed:

  • Ragdolls do not have an undercoat.  They do still shed, however not having an undercoat is beneficial to those who are allergic.  Most people who are allergic to cats are allergic to the undercoat or saliva.

  • Ragdoll coats do not typically mat like other longhaired cats.  Therefore, Ragdolls do not require the regular grooming as frequently as other long haired breeds.

  • Ragdolls are one of the largets cat breeds.  An average female can weigh between 14-15 lbs and males can average around 20lbs.

  • Ragdolls are a great breed for children.  Because of their calm disposition, they do not mind being carried around .  The Ragdoll is a perfect all around breed for a family with children.
